SIDEWRITE 2012

Welcome to the 2012 Sidewrite Screenplay Competition. A division of the Sidewalk Film Festival started in 2004, Sidewrite's mission is to discover and reward talented screenwriters in Alabama and around the world. The short screenplay competition aims to foster community amongst emerging writers and reinforce cinematic artistry locally. Sidewrite allows passionate writers to enhance their craft and receive recognition for their work and creativity.

Registration is open now.

Screenplay Deadline: May 15 (all entries must be submitted in PDF format through WithoutABox by this time. AMIA accepts no responsibility for lost or misrouted scripts.)

Although there are some changes to this year's competition, the goal remains the same: To recognize and reward great screen storytelling for short screenplays of 15 pages or less. The competition features an Alabama Screenwriters Division (open to residents of Alabama) and an International Screenwriters Division (open to everyone).

Some of the changes this year include:

-        Electronic submissions and payment. After registering for the competition through WithoutABox, your script will be processed, and you will be notified when your script has been approved for consideration.

-        Final Round judging by professional screenwriters. The top three scripts will be submitted to a “celebrity screenwriting panel”, composed of produced screenwriters, to help determine the final winners (Best Overall Screenplay and Best Alabama Screenplay). The winners will receive $500 prize.

--   The top three screenplays will be featured in Birmingham Film Actors Lab table read during the Festival. This event will be free and open to the public.
