It is part of the Dormant Accounts Fund.

Midlands Sports Partnership Groups are set to receive funding of over €300,000.

The money comes from the Dormant Account Fund and will be aimed at boosting sports initiatives such as ‘Get Girls Active’, ‘Youth Leadership’ and specialist disability training courses.

Offaly was awarded the highest fund in the region, at €142,000.

Laois will receive €114,500 and Westmeath is expected to benefit from €66,700.

Senator Offaly Pippa Hacket said: “I welcome the direct and indirect funding to promote physical activity for all through the Local Sports Partnerships in Laois and Offaly. While the direct funding of €114,500 for Laois and €142,000 for Offaly has the most immediate, local and visible impact, I also look forward to the benefits of Sports Ireland’s enhanced physical activity programmes, including including those focused on adolescent girls. As a sports enthusiast, runner and mother of daughters, I fully support the effective promotion of increased activity levels in this target group and welcome this funding to support the actions and goals set out in the Sport Policy Ireland Women In Sport. ”
