A Renewable Future Is The Only Future For NI, Says Local Company

Belfast, UK, 20 November 2022, ZEXPRWIRE, Northern Ireland renewables experts Everun are set to support more than £50m in wind and solar investments across the country over the next three years. The announcement comes as world leaders gathered at COP27 in Egypt last week.

Everun, which has been in business since 2010, currently manages over £150 million of renewable assets for clients across the island of Ireland.

Over the past year, the company has invested over £2 million, growing its workforce to 45 employees, as well as significant investment in high-value shares, expanded premises and wider infrastructure .

The company plans to invest a further £7.5m over the next three years to support the delivery of a further £50m of renewable energy assets in Northern Ireland. This investment will also include the creation of 25 other jobs in the field of engineering and professional services.

Chief Executive Michael Thompson said: “As part of our continued investment in the development of wind and solar energy projects, we are delighted to be able to play our part in delivering Northern Ireland’s target of 80% use of renewable energy by 2030 and to be in a position to create another 25 highly skilled jobs in the sector.

“As a renewable energy management company that manages wind and solar renewable energy sources, electric vehicle charging, smart motor systems and the transition to renewable energy, we recognize that we have the responsibility in the sector private to invest heavily to support Northern Ireland’s energy and climate change strategy. Invoice.”

Mr Thompson says Northern Ireland as a whole still has a long way to go to reach the 80% target. He added that the potential to achieve energy security is there but much work remains to be done by both government and the private sector.

“Northern Ireland has increased the amount of energy produced from renewables from almost zero in 2010 to 45% this year,” he said.

“If Northern Ireland and the rest of the UK and Ireland are to meet the targets set, energy production must be supported by the right assets and the right technology, as well as investment in infrastructure wider by the government.

“We have large, energy-intensive businesses in manufacturing that need reliable power sources, and bespoke software allows us to deliver that reliability and cost-effectiveness from renewables.”

Already managing more than 160 wind turbines, at single sites and wind farms, as well as several solar installations, Everun is also celebrating its expansion into the Republic of Ireland market this year.

Mr Thompson said Northern Ireland was at least four years behind the Republic of Ireland and the rest of the UK.

The Northern Ireland Climate Change Bill includes a climate action plan to be released at the end of the year following Royal Assent in June.

“The rest of the UK and the Republic of Ireland have developed renewable energy generation with a range of support mechanisms but Northern Ireland is lagging behind without a clear strategy from our executive, said Mr. Thompson.

“It has consequences. Northern Ireland is held back from an overall economic perspective due to lack of investment in energy infrastructure and renewables.

“Our manufacturing sector relies heavily on huge energy consumption, so soaring costs make them less competitive, leaving less profit to reinvest.”

“We need to address issues such as planning and the power grid in order to achieve our goals, which should include controlling our own energy security. We should be ambitious enough to consider exporting electricity beyond NI, and then we can make our economy whatever we want it to be.

Mr. Thompson added that with the right investment and determination, the future can be exciting for the industry and the broader NI economy.
