Swedish tourism industry specialists and tour operators strengthen partnerships to elevate tourism in Sri Lanka

March 27, Colombo: Tourism industry experts from Sweden, the UK and Sri Lanka gathered in Stockholm recently to introduce the destination of Sri Lanka to an influential group of tour operators and travel consultants in Sri Lanka. Airlines that facilitate connectivity with Sri Lanka, namely Emirates, Qatar Airways and Sri Lankan Airlines shared their current and future partnership with Sri Lanka and described the increase in frequency and support to the destination, which which indicates the strong and positive value they attach to the destination.
The evening was the result of the partnership between the Sri Lankan Embassy in Stockholm, the Sri Lanka Tourism Promotion Board, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Kastanj Collection Sweden, which brought together the presenters and the audience in Stockholm.
Sri Lanka’s envoy to Sweden, Ambassador Dharshana Perera, addressing the meeting encouraged industry partners to establish, among other things, strong and mutually beneficial business partnerships with Sri Lanka, which has makes Sweden and Scandinavia priority emerging markets. In his remarks, the Ambassador described Sri Lanka’s open, safe, multi-faceted and multi-sector year-round destination, which he described as “Asia in an island”.
The flavors of Sri Lanka were presented through cuisine developed by a Sri Lankan chef in collaboration with Carola Magnusson, a well-known Swedish chef and culinary expert in Stockholm, who, after spending several years in Sri Lanka, had acquired a special knowledge of the island’s unique spices and tastes.
The high-impact event brought together over 32 leading Swedish industry specialists, tour operators, travel consultants from across the country and presenters and who are now expected to build even stronger partnerships to elevate Swedish and Scandinavian clientele. in Sri Lanka. Sri Lanka Tourism strongly supported the event which is seen as an important initiative to improve the respective markets.
The evening, presented in a warm Sri Lankan ambiance, provided an excellent space and atmosphere for sharing ideas, focused business interactions and a unique dining experience through an array of Sri Lankan dishes and Ceylon tea.
