The value of total assets under management reached 10.6 billion euros in the 2nd quarter of 2022, registering a decrease of 4.1% compared to the 1st quarter of 2022, according to the latest quarterly statistics bulletin published by the Cyprus Securities and Exchange Commission (CySEC) .
The statistical bulletin can be viewed on the CySEC website and presents the most important data on the collective investment sector in Cyprus, according to a press release issued on Monday.
Based on Q2 2022 data, CySEC supervises 330 management companies and undertakings for collective investment (OPC), of which 237 are in operation.
More specifically, it oversees 210 externally managed UCIs, 45 internally managed UCIs and 75 external fund managers. The total number of Management Companies includes 43 AIFMs, 67 sub-threshold AIFMs, 4 UCITS Management Companies and 6 dual-licensed entities (AIFMs and UCITS Management Companies).
Total Assets Under Management (AUM) for the 2nd quarter of 2022 reached 10.6 billion euros, recording a decrease of 4.1% since the 1st quarter of 2022 and the UCIs, managed by the Management Companies had a Value Net Asset Value (NAV) of €9.5 billion.
Around 61% of the AUM concern Assets managed by AIFMs, 13% by sub-threshold AIFMs, 17% by AIFMs and UCITS Management Companies, 8% by UCITS Management Companies and only 1% by Regulated UCIs which are managed by foreign fund managers.
Around 84.3% of UCITS assets under management were invested in transferable securities and 8.4% in bank deposits, while 5.9% were in UCITS and UCIs. With regard to AIFs, AIFLNPs and RAIFs, 42.8% of assets under management are linked to investments in Private Equity, while investment in Hedge Funds represents 10.6% of the AUM.
There are a total of 205 OPCs in operation. 181 UCIs domiciled in Cyprus (10 UCITS, 56 AIF, 58 AIFLNP and 57 RAIF) represent 83% of total assets under management. Out of a total of 205 UCIs, 162 invest partially or entirely in Cyprus and these investments amount to 2.6 billion euros or 24% of the total assets under management.
71.8% of investments in Cyprus are in Private Equity, while 11.7% are in real estate.
Regarding the categorization of unitholders, the vast majority of UCITS are retail investors (99.1%), while for AIFs, AIFNLPs and RAIFs, 22.2% of them are professional investors, 63.3% of informed investors and only 14.5% of retail investors. .
Regarding the specific sectors in which UCIs have invested, during the 2nd quarter of 2022, assets in the energy sector amounted to €393.9m (3.699% of total AUM), while €16.4m were invested in Fintech (0.154% of total AUM), €117.1 million in maritime transport (1.099% of total AUM), €41.7 million in sustainable investments (0.392% of total AUM) and €5.2 million in cryptocurrencies (0.049% of total AUM).
